National Tree Day at Chillingham

A big crowd of people from all over the Tweed and some from much further afield turned up at the oval next to the Chillingham Community Centre last Sunday (28 October 2019) for National Tree Day. It was glorious fine day and over 1000 trees were planted in the riparian zone of the Rous River which had been beautifully prepared by council staff prior to the day.

Our very dear friend Claire Masters who died suddenly in late May had lobbied council for many years to have this site selected for National Tree Day and had been very excited that it was finally going ahead this year.

Chillingham locals took the opportunity to plant some trees for Claire and another much loved local Peter Sibley who died just a few days before Claire. Family members of both Claire and Peter came along for the day.

Katie Milne, the Tweed mayor payed her respects to Claire and Peter in her address to the crowd before everyone enjoyed a cuppa and a great morning tea. Here are a few photos of the day:

Claire Masters Memorial Tree Planting Day

Claire Master's family and over 150 friends gathered together at the Chillingham Community Centre on Saturday 22 June to carry out a memorial tree planting for our much loved friend and Vice President, Claire Masters, who died suddenly a few weeks ago. Claire was a truly remarkable person and we will all miss her terribly. Friends from the Caldera Environment Centre, the Tweed Shire Council, Landcare, the Greens and many other local organizations that Claire had done so much for over the yers were all represented. Over 200 trees were planted in areas adjacent to a regeneration site Claire had been working on since 2006 and we are sure she would have been delighted to see this happen.

Claire had also worked very hard for many years to get the council to nominate the riparian zone next to the Community Centre as a major site for National Tree Day and was very excited to learn that this is going ahead on 28 July this year. Please come along and help to make this a a success by planting a tree for Claire and for our environment. Details of the planting day are in the link below:

The 2018 Chillingham Community Association Christmas party was a great success. Santa arrived on the back of a fire engine to the delight of the waiting children who then received gifts from Santa's large sack.

Santa was assisted in this task by a mysterious elf who arrived just in the nick of time. The weather was kind and apart from the odd misty rain shower or two, allowed everyone to move about the grounds and across to the outdoor viewing of a Christmas movie.

The food was as always delicious.

Thanks to all who attended and the Community Association wishes our whole community a safe and very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
